English Language Development

The goal of the English Language Development (ELD) program is to develop the English language proficiency of English learners (EL) so that they can become academically and socially successful. The instruction of ELs is guided by English language development standards framework for ELs as well as PA state standards.

English learners are assessed annually using the World Class Instruction Design and Assessment (WIDA) – ACCESS for ELs.

Instruction is provided based on the student’s English Language Proficiency levels. Students participate in small group lessons focusing on the four language domains: listening, speaking, reading and writing. These lessons are developed in collaboration with classroom teachers.

Families participate in ELD organized nights, providing information about available community resources. Support is also offered by our community outreach programs throughout the year.
